Video Recording
Many gymnastics coaches and participants use video recordings everyday in their training and at competitions for instant feedback. Coaches use their iPhones, iPads and other recording devices to capture every skill and every movement that their athletes make during their competition routines and whilst training.
A.) How does the technology work?Coaches and gymnast use video recordings by uploading them onto computers and then replaying the recordings over and over again to find faults and room for improvement. These recordings can also be used to compare one video to another, because of video recording on some devises, coaches have the ability to compare a video of their athlete executing a certain skill to another athlete (usually an olympic level professional) doing the same skill. They use this to help them find fault in their gymnast work and to help them find ways to improve their skills to make them much more like the skill performed in the other video.
B.) When was the technology discovered/invented?The first video recording devices were invented in the early 1920's when the first televisions were beginning to be made. Instant video recording has only recently been invented and it has only recently been used in the sport of gymnastics. Coaches have used video recording divides to help them coach since daly 2000's. Video recording/video coaching has improved the performances from gymnast all across the world.
E.) Give 1 example of when the technology is used (e.g. in training, recovery, competition, officiating etc.)?Video recording technology is used daily in gymnasiums and competition arenas to record training progression and performances as well also using it at competitions to record and save the gymnasts performance whilst under pressure of a competition scene.
G.) Show a photo/video of each form of technology in action. |
C.) Does the technology significantly help improve the sport in terms of performance, safety etc. Or is it just a fad?The usage of video recording technology has improved the performances shown by gymnast all across the world as this sort of technology allows gymnast to see instantly for themselves what they need to fix and what they are doing correctly. Gymnastics is a sport where you are in complete control of your performance, video recording technology allows gymnast to record themselves and rematch the video themselves for instant neutral feedback from the video. Gymnast watch lot of gymnastics so they know exactly what they know exactly how it should all look.
D.) Has the technology spread to other parts of the world through sport (i.e. is it used all over the world, in Australia only ect.)?Yes, Video recording technology is used all over the world in the sport of gymnastics. Gymnast and coaches all over the world use this sort of technology daily in their training to help improve performances and to ensure that the gymnast is aware of the way that they are performing.
F.) Give 1 example of groups that have access to the technology (based on affordability, availability, ect.)?Video recording is easily accessible to anyone as it is a feature found on all smart phone or smart devices such as iPhones and iPads. Anyone who has these sort of devises/equipment can access this kind of technology. Also, video recorders are usually found at most gymnasiums where gymnast train and they are normally accessible to all coaches who wish to use it.
